My results

Here are my results from http://www.synesthete.org/

The colours I associate with numbers and letters: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/30900164/
The colours I associate with weekdays: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/30900213/
The colours I associate with months: http://www.deviantart.com/view/30900281/

I find this all pretty interesting.

nice, those tests kept me busy during my insomniac evening.

did they have you do the speed-congruency test? it was interesting because based on teh graphemes test, i am synesthetic (i came up at .65 and it claims less than 1.0 says you are a synesthete)...then on the speed-congruency test i came up at 87.5% (and they say synestheses are usually 90-100%). maybe i'm just bad at the speed thing? i found myself getting distracted from that one a bit...i also found my computer to be lagging, so maybe that was a portion of the issue. fun tests though -- i LOVED the color boxes for the graphemes test...i loved that you can actually pick the real color and tone you want, instead of settling for something that is just "close."

I have a really difficult time using color pickers. I couldn't quite get shades of brown to work for me, for example. I was easily frustrated. Some of my colors were things like pinkish/brownish and I just couldn't figure out where to go to reach them. I got 0.72 for that section. Ironically, I got 0.48 and 0.32 for the weekdays/months section, even though those associations aren't as strong. I just got better at using the picker.

On the speed test, I know I clicked the wrong button at least a few times -- those "pick a response as quickly as you can" tests always do that to me. I scored 88.89%, which I guess means I'm not a synesthete, heh.

Yeah, I agree about the colour boxes.

The speed thing was dumb.

oh, second comment because i forgot something. why do they ask about migraines and epileptic seizures? that was really strange to me. is there some connection i've never known about? i have gotten migraines for several years and then started having epileptic seizures (temporal lobe) this past year, so that caught me off-guard.

I was surprised by the question about migraines, too, as I've been having rather severe migraines for years and years. Oddly, after I have a migraine (I'm on a medicine to get rid of them), my synaesthesia is particularly clear. Maybe there is some kind of connection?

Perhaps!

Don't people see colored lights and such during migraines? I was suspected of having either migraines or epilepsy at one point because my neurologist kept focusing on that I see sparkly white lights when I close my eyes, instead of the normal black (or whatever it is people normally see when they close their eyes).

I think mostly it's because migraines and epilepsy means your brain is wired a little differently than "normal" and they're trying to see if there's a connection between them.

Yea, I've heard something about visual migraines. Not too familiar with them personally.

I have heard the correlation of temporal lobe epilepsy. Synesthesia occurs in 4% of the cases, from the book I read. If the seizure goes to the cortex, the response is more complex (tasting artichokes, not just something bitter, for example).

That was in Synaesthesia but Baron-Cohen. The TLE correlation was something hypothesized by Cytowic..I'm not sure how much research they've done on it since him, though. His first book was horrible science so I have trouble trusting his conclusions.

Normal people just see black when they close their eyes? I see all sorts of things. That's why I can't close my eyes to concentrate. I always got in trouble at school for it. We'd be supposed to close our eyes and concentrate, but I'd keep mine open, because I'm actually seeing/experiencing less when I've got them open.

I get migraines, and I see flashing lights and shapes when I do, but it's not like synesthesia. I see my syn in my minds eye, but during a migraine I actually do have flashing colours/lights/sparkles in front of my eyes, blocking my vision.

The things people see when they close their eyes varies from person to person, also depending on what you've been looking at and how bright the light is and how hard you have your eyes shut.

I'm not sure, i think they may be connected to syn in some way, soemthing about the way the brain is wired?

Types of Synesthesia you have

Grapheme→Color
Weekdays→Color
Month→Color
Musical Sounds→Color
General Sounds→Color
Taste→Color
Odor→Color
Personalities→Color
Touch→Color
Temperature→Color
Emotion→Color
Spatial (sequence)
Sound→Smell
Vision→Sound
Sound→Touch
Sound→Taste
Vision→Taste
Other: Letters and colors have personalities as well

My results for the battery test:

Grapheme Color Picker Test: 0.33

Speed-Congruency Test: Accuracy 95.83 %
Mean Reaction Time: 1.015 seconds +/- 0.199

(on this test some of the displayed colors looked a bit different against a white background versus black or against a color blackground period.

Weekday Color Picker Test: 0.36

Month Color Picker Test: 0.32

Grapheme Color Picker Test: 0.5

This was the easiest for me to use, but still difficult in that a lot of my letters can't be contained to just one shade, or for a few, one color.

Speed-Congruency Test: 91.43 % and 1.409 seconds +/- 0.425

I messed up and said the opposite of what I meant to say on two of them.

Weekday Color Picker Test: Score: 0.64

I messed up on Saturday because the second time, I accidentally double-clicked after having said one color for Thursday, so one of my Saturday's didn't match.

Month Color Picker Test: 0.56

This was the most difficult for me to use because my months without a doubt do not want to be forced into one shade of one color. I couldn't even answer for May because it was just too confusing in that respect.

Yes I had a similar issue with the months. The months for me have more than one color but they each have an "overlay" color along with the individual coloring of their letters. I answered using the overlay colors for the months. September for example has a strong overlay of a mild yellow hue but there's also some brown and a tiny bit of orange in there as part of the underlying overlay color blend and then there are the individual colors for each letter in September that I see which are embedded and displayed under the complete overlay blend.

Even with the color picker for the grapheme test, it was sometimes difficult for me to get the exact coloring for certain letters, but I tried to match as close as I could each time.

Yes, obviously it would be a lot more difficult if you saw more than one plain colour for things, or if they move and whatnot... I just picked the closest to what I see.

I found those tests kind of restrictive. A lot of my colours couldn't be made on the colour picker. For example, my Monday is pink and gold and sort of glows. It's impossible to get that on a colour picker. In fact, most of my colours 'move', even if they're one colour, they sort of... waver. Does anyone else have this problem?

Oh yeah...

Grapheme colour picker test: 0.65

Speed-congruency test: 86.11% This test was very confusing, especially with the alternating white and black backgrounds

Week day colour picker test: 0.37

Month colour picker test: 0.46

Types of Synesthesia you have

* Grapheme→Color
* Weekdays→Color
* Month→Color
* Musical Sounds→Color
* General Sounds→Color
* Taste→Color
* Pain→Color
* Personalities→Color
* Emotion→Color
* Spatial

Grapheme color picker test: 0.29

Speed congruency test:
Accuracy 98.61 %
Mean Reaction Time 2.378 seconds +/- 1.485
(This one was harder because I hate being timed like that. If it wasn't timed I probably would have done fine, but the added stress of being timed makes me panic and made my time high.)

Weekday color picker test: 0.35
(This one was harder to do because some of my months have two colors. The color picker doesn't let my Tuesday be pink with a splotch of blue!_

Month color picker test: 0.15
(This was easy, because half my months are red for some reason. I'd never paid attention to that until now actually, probably because they're so boring.)

Also -

Another problem I had with the test was that it didn't have many other kinds of synesthesia that I know exist. Most of the choices were XXX->color. While that's the majority of my synesthesia, most of my colors also have textures to them, as well as being sparkly, shiny, glowing, having more than one color, having patterns, etc. The test was too limited and confining.

I agree with everyone else - the speed test sucked. It knocked my score to 85%, though I was consistent with the colors on the first part. The speed test just flustered me, I think, because I was trying to do it quickly, and I know I hit the wrong answers a couple of times.

The picker didn't bother me, though. Many long hours of poking around with Photoshop have gotten me used to it.
