I find this all pretty interesting.

did they have you do the speed-congruency test? it was interesting because based on teh graphemes test, i am synesthetic (i came up at .65 and it claims less than 1.0 says you are a synesthete)...then on the speed-congruency test i came up at 87.5% (and they say synestheses are usually 90-100%). maybe i'm just bad at the speed thing? i found myself getting distracted from that one a bit...i also found my computer to be lagging, so maybe that was a portion of the issue. fun tests though -- i LOVED the color boxes for the graphemes test...i loved that you can actually pick the real color and tone you want, instead of settling for something that is just "close."

On the speed test, I know I clicked the wrong button at least a few times -- those "pick a response as quickly as you can" tests always do that to me. I scored 88.89%, which I guess means I'm not a synesthete, heh.

The speed thing was dumb.

I think mostly it's because migraines and epilepsy means your brain is wired a little differently than "normal" and they're trying to see if there's a connection between them.

I have heard the correlation of temporal lobe epilepsy. Synesthesia occurs in 4% of the cases, from the book I read. If the seizure goes to the cortex, the response is more complex (tasting artichokes, not just something bitter, for example).
That was in Synaesthesia but Baron-Cohen. The TLE correlation was something hypothesized by Cytowic..I'm not sure how much research they've done on it since him, though. His first book was horrible science so I have trouble trusting his conclusions.

The things people see when they close their eyes varies from person to person, also depending on what you've been looking at and how bright the light is and how hard you have your eyes shut.

My results for the battery test:
Grapheme Color Picker Test: 0.33
Speed-Congruency Test: Accuracy 95.83 %
Mean Reaction Time: 1.015 seconds +/- 0.199
(on this test some of the displayed colors looked a bit different against a white background versus black or against a color blackground period.
Weekday Color Picker Test: 0.36
Month Color Picker Test: 0.32
March 26 2006, 21:11:12 UTC 6 years ago
This was the easiest for me to use, but still difficult in that a lot of my letters can't be contained to just one shade, or for a few, one color.
Speed-Congruency Test: 91.43 % and 1.409 seconds +/- 0.425
I messed up and said the opposite of what I meant to say on two of them.
Weekday Color Picker Test: Score: 0.64
I messed up on Saturday because the second time, I accidentally double-clicked after having said one color for Thursday, so one of my Saturday's didn't match.
Month Color Picker Test: 0.56
This was the most difficult for me to use because my months without a doubt do not want to be forced into one shade of one color. I couldn't even answer for May because it was just too confusing in that respect.

Even with the color picker for the grapheme test, it was sometimes difficult for me to get the exact coloring for certain letters, but I tried to match as close as I could each time.

Grapheme color picker test: 0.29
Speed congruency test:
Accuracy 98.61 %
Mean Reaction Time 2.378 seconds +/- 1.485
(This one was harder because I hate being timed like that. If it wasn't timed I probably would have done fine, but the added stress of being timed makes me panic and made my time high.)
Weekday color picker test: 0.35
(This one was harder to do because some of my months have two colors. The color picker doesn't let my Tuesday be pink with a splotch of blue!_
Month color picker test: 0.15
(This was easy, because half my months are red for some reason. I'd never paid attention to that until now actually, probably because they're so boring.)

Another problem I had with the test was that it didn't have many other kinds of synesthesia that I know exist. Most of the choices were XXX->color. While that's the majority of my synesthesia, most of my colors also have textures to them, as well as being sparkly, shiny, glowing, having more than one color, having patterns, etc. The test was too limited and confining.March 27 2006, 11:15:37 UTC 6 years ago

The picker didn't bother me, though. Many long hours of poking around with Photoshop have gotten me used to it.
